Virgin PTFE beakers compression molded from 3M PTFE resin.

Polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) is a synthetic fluoropolymer of tetrafluoroethylene that has numerous applications and is virtually inert to mineral acids and corrosives. The best known brand name of PTFE is Teflon by DuPont Co.

PTFE is a fluorocarbon solid, as it is a high-molecular-weight compound consisting wholly of carbon and fluorine. PTFE is hydrophobic: neither water nor water-containing substances wet PTFE, as fluorocarbons demonstrate mitigated London dispersion forces due to the high electronegativity of fluorine. PTFE has one of the lowest coefficients of friction against any solid.

It is very non-reactive, partly because of the strength of carbon–fluorine bonds, and so it is often used in containers and pipework for reactive and corrosive chemicals.

Withstands temperatures from -450 to 550°F (-268 to 288°C).

Can be used with Hydrofluoric, Nitric, Sulfuric acids and acid blends found in the plating & semiconductor industries.

Autoclavable.

  • Meets ASTM D4894 Type IV, Grade 2 resin
  • Semi-free-flowing compression molding powder
  • High bulk density
  • Good for large billets and thin walled isostatic moldings
  • Very dense polymer structure, similar to non-free-flowing grades
  • Excellent flex life
  • Good dielectric strength
